Have you always envisioned a wedding or event day that is strictly your own but can’t seem to think creatively?
Do you want unique touches that are just special to your day and that others will want to emulate but nothing comes to mind?
Are you lost on how to get out of the “picture box” – meaning you can’t envision your own wedding outside the pictures you’ve saved on your Pinterest board?
If so, you’re not alone!
We work with many couples that are simply in need of inspiration to make their day their own. At a time during which we have endless ideas at our fingertips, we can still find it daunting to select our own style and look that doesn’t mimic what has been done before.
What’s our advice?
Find inspiration outside of the internet!
Here are 5 creative ways we find can be helpful in beginning to create your own one-of-a-kind wedding or event vision!
1. Go Artsy!
Whether or not you like, appreciate, or are even interested in art, it can still provide a plethora of inspiration!
We love recommending art museums or festivals to our couples.
When visiting, take note of such things as:
– genres or styles of art (think the softness of impressionism, the modernism of cubism, or even the grandeur of baroque).
– colors! Tones and hues in just one painting can provide the perfect palette for your own special day.
– textures and metallics such as shiny material versus soft wools, etc. can be helpful in realizing what type of setting attracts you – something light and airy or cozy and romantic?
Try the Orlando Museum of Art, The Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, or The Perez Art Museum in Miami. Don’t like museums? Visit your local bookstore and browse through art books!
2. Troll the Local Paint Store.
Colors! So many to pick from, what do you do?
If you find yourself confused on which tone of blue (to make it perfect for a wedding) or you want to add a splash of yellow, but not sure how it would work with gray, a visit to your local paint or hardware store can work wonders!
Browse the paint selection and notice different colors, tones, and hues and how they look together. You may be surprised when your initial ivory changes to taupe to go perfectly with the blush.
3. App Around Town!
Haven’t decided on your menu yet? No worries! You can work on this everyday if you want!
If you’re looking for a fun date night and need to begin thinking about your menu, we love “apping” around town.
Select 4-5 restaurants where you can try different appetizers and make notes of what you like. Even if your main meal is selected, this type of inspiration can be fun and creative for your cocktail hour – which is meant to be creative!
Not sure about wines? Check out a local wine bar that allows 1-3 oz. pours so you can sip and taste which are your favorite varietals.
4. Reminisce & Write It Out.
Have you ever had an experience – such as traveling somewhere, trying a new restaurant, or staying at a certain hotel or b&b, in which it will be etched in your memory forever?
Reminisce about what was so special about it and write it down.
Was it the chef coming to your table to ask how your meal was? Maybe the fresh flowers on the nightstand of your room? Or the way a local took you in and shared with you the secrets of your location and made a homemade meal for you?
Whatever it is, truly think about what made it special. Take that concept and work with your planner to turn that feeling into something unique at your wedding.
Is it fresh flowers for everyone to take home? Is it the chef coming out to explain the main entree? Is it grandma’s homemade pie recipe that is served?
Whatever it is, take that memory, that feeling, and share it.
5. Trust Your Wedding/Event Planner & Your Floral/Event Designer.
Whether you have a lack of ideas or far too many, bottom line is trust your planning team. Your wedding or event planner and floral designer have seen many, many weddings. They know what’s in trend right now that everyone is doing and typically have tons of ideas on how to make it more unique.
Our favorite thing? Ask your floral/event designer what they’ve always wanted to do and see if their ideas could be a good fit for you. We have been floored by what we have seen!
